Redknapp cautious over England chance

Buy soccer shirts uk - premier league football shirts, favourite soccer team kits

Harry Redknapp believes his chances of becoming the next England manager have not improved despite recent developments.

David Bernstein, whose appointment as Football Association chairman is expected to be rubber-stamped next week, admits he would prefer an Englishman to succeed Capello in 2012.

That would appear to put Spurs boss Redknapp in with an extremely good chance of taking the post, but he insists the unpredictable nature of the game means his stock may not be valued so highly when the process to decide Capello's successor begins.

Jonny Wilkinson's new deal with Toulon could signal end to England career

Jonny Wilkinson is prepared to put his international career at risk by signing an extension to his contract with Toulon.

The Rugby Football Union has said that it will only select players playing outside England after the 2011 World Cup in exceptional circumstances. Wilkinson is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a renewed deal with Toulon, the club he joined 18 months ago. If he does, he will be ruled out of contention for England if they stay true to their word in favouring home-based players.

“Jonny is happy with us and I think he will sign for one more year plus a one-year option,” said Toulon director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre. “It is nearly done. Maybe Jonny will play two years with us and if he is still fit and happy he will then go back to England to play in the next World Cup in England in 2015.”

Development Of Women's Football In England

Buy soccer shirts uk - European premier league football tops, favourite soccer team kits

By Steve Goodwin

Women's football is the fastest growing sport in the World, there are more females playing football than any other female team sport and it is estimated there are over one million females playing football in England and over 26 million around the world.

The first record of a women's football match was in 1895, with the first International match taking place in 1920. A record crowd of 53,000 watched a female football match in 1920, but the Football Association banned women from playing on Football on League grounds in 1921. Believing that the game was unsuitable for females and should not to be encouraged.

Amazingly the ban remained until 1971, by which time the Women's Football Association had been formed. The first WFA Cup Final took place in 1971, which was followed by the first recognised International match between England and Scotland in 1972.

It wasn't until the 1990's that the game became more popular and the first English league was established in 1991. The league was taken under the control of the Football Association in 1994 and became know as the FAWPL (Football Association Women's Premier League).

The dominant force within the English game are Arsenal Ladies who have won an incredible 33 trophies since their formation in 1987. The honours include 12 Premier League titles, 10 National Cups and 10 FA Cups. Arsenal have won the league title for the last 7 consecutive years.

The Football association made a commitment in 1997 to develop the game for women from the grass roots through to the top level, which led to the development of 20 Centres of excellence for girls within the sport. There are now 50 centres of excellence providing quality coaching for girls between the ages of 8 and 16.

Greater emphasis has now also been placed on the English national team, who after winning unofficial World Cups in 1985 and 1988 have struggled to make an impact on the World football, having only qualified for two official World Cup finals.

Confidence is high that the now semi-professional Women's Super League, planned to start in 2011, will provide an improved structure and better players for the national team in the future. It is hoped that greater television coverage will also provide an additional boost to this already popular sport.

England have received powerful support from former Russia national coach Guus Hiddink in their demand for a total clean-up at FIFA.

Hiddink’s former employers, the Russian Football Federation, were handed the 2018 World Cup ahead of England by the Sepp Blatter’s FIFA executive committee.

But, amid the allegations of corruption within world football’s governing body, Hiddink supports the FA’s demands for a FIFA revolution.

Hiddink said: “FIFA must realise by now they have a problem with their image. The world’s governing football body has not come out of this unscathed. It is time for changes.”

SPAIN-PORTUGAL

Buy football shirts uk - European premier league football tops, favourite soccer team shirts

Could the Fifa executive committee put aside its apparent antipathy to a joint bid and name Spain and Portugal as co-hosts for the 2018 World Cup?

The less-than-smooth running of the 2002 finals in South Korea and Japan, both of whom are bidding for the 2022 World Cup, is still remembered bitterly in the hallowed hallways of Fifa's Zurich headquarters, while the organisation of the Euro 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine is still fraught with problems.

However, the successful staging of Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland showed that two countries can get along without political bickering and infighting.

World Cup 2018: Spain's emotions range from perplexed to angry

Jaime Lissavetzky said it best. "I am getting used to losing," the Spanish sports minister shrugged sadly.

There was a depressing familiarity to today's proceedings: Spain felt that it had the best bid but was left disappointed – just as the country had been in the battle to host the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. For many, the inescapable feeling is that sporting fashions and political manoeuvrings, not meritocracy, hold sway.

Spain had been handed a very favourable report from the Fifa inspection committee and expected to get at least nine votes in the first round.

Leicester City sign Wigan Athletic's Chris Kirkland

Leicester City have signed Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland on loan until January.

The former Liverpool keeper, who has won one England cap, started the season as first choice at Wigan but has since lost his place to Ali Al Habsi.

"I'm grateful to have the chance to come and compete for a place. I'll train hard and hopefully I'll get the nod," the 29-year-old said.

"All my family are Leicester fans and I am proud to play here."

The Barwell-born keeper, who looked set to join the Foxes last week only for the move to be postponed because of a virus, added: "I've not been guaranteed anything. I know I have to work hard to get the nod and, if I do, I have to perform well to keep my place.

World Football News: England’s 2018 bid awaiting boost

Buy football kits, soccer jerseys, official football shirts including world cup shirts, retro soccer shirts, cheap soccer jerseys and socks with authentic soccer shirt printing available.

England’s 2018 World Cup bid has been under threat after the Sunday Times’ report over the past one month but now the bid is set to undergo a huge boost as FIFA will unveil the evaluation reports on the respective bids that have come under way. Preliminary news paper reports suggest that the bid is set to take a huge confidence boost as it has been praised in most parts of the anticipated evaluation reports that are scheduled to be released on Wednesday.

England’s only weak mark in their bid is seen as the contracted hotel system in the country. The other bids from Spain/Portugal as well as from Russia have their fall backs as well. The Russian bid is thought to be a weak one due to the lack of transport facilities in the country in comparison to other bids. The Iberian bid from Spain/Portugal has its own weak points as well as both the countries have a weak security and safety system. Read more here....

Liverpool FC sale: as it happened

Football shirts, football kits uk, soccer jerseys, socks and retro soccer shirts online, cheap soccer jerseys and authentic soccer shirt printing from My Football Tops UK, football news

Tom Hicks and George Gillett last night tried to derail Liverpool's sale to the owners of the Boston Red Sox by obtaining a temporary injunction in a Dallas court, claiming $1.6bn (£1bn) in damages and calling it an "epic swindle". The club immediately responded by vowing to overturn the "unwarranted and damaging" order as talks with New England Joint Ventures continued into the early hours after yesterday's resounding victory in the high court.

As Liverpool's reconstituted board met with NESV, on the verge of a deal to buy the club for £300m and bring the tenure of Hicks and Gillett to a close, the duo launched a desperate bid to reopen the sale process. The restraining order appears to prevent a sale taking place before the hearing on 25 October. Now the boards of Kop Football and Kop Holdings accept they must fight to have it removed in order to proceed with the sale to NESV.

A statement on the Liverpool website read: "The independent directors consider the restraining order to be unwarranted and damaging and will move as swiftly as possible to seek to have it removed."

The news of the restraining order came in a statement posted on the website of the American law firm Fish & Richardson. The Texas District State Court petition accuses the chairman, Martin Broughton, appointed by the creditors Royal Bank of Scotland in April to oversee the sale of the club, and his fellow directors of acting as "pawns" of RBS to perpetrate an "epic swindle" in selling the club to NESV for less than half its supposed market value and ignoring several higher offers.

Fabio Capello says England were 'lucky' to draw with Montenegro

Football shirts, football kits uk, soccer jerseys, socks and retro soccer shirts online, cheap soccer jerseys and authentic soccer shirt printing from My Football Tops UK, football news

Rio Ferdinand said that England "should be winning games like that" as the team left here to a chorus of boos, having failed to score for the first time in their redeveloped national stadium.

Montenegro, who are ranked 40th in the world, stayed on top of Group G after England revisited their World Cup failings in South Africa over the summer by producing a disjointed and lethargic performance. The England manager, Fabio Capello, echoed his captain's frustration with the team's display and said that his side had even been "lucky" to draw, after Milan Jovanovic hit the visitors' only real opportunity against the crossbar, seven minutes from time.

"We can take a few positives but we really should be winning games like that," said Ferdinand. "I think we deserved better. They hit the bar late on but up until then we were on the front foot trying to create chances and their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves. It seemed like it would be his day.

"Maybe we did try too hard, but that's what happens. You want to please the manager and the fans, but it just wasn't to be."

Capello's side had not been held at home for two years – indeed, England had not drawn a home match 0-0 since Macedonia left Old Trafford with a point in 2006 – and this was a sobering evening after the recovery hinted at by victories over Bulgaria and Switzerland last month. It was more reminiscent of the struggles endured by the Italian's side against Algeria in Cape Town in June.

Wales need Euro 2012 qualifying 'miracle'

Football shirts, football kits, soccer jerseys, socks and retro soccer shirts online, cheap soccer jerseys and authentic soccer shirt printing from My Football Tops UK, football news

The Welsh have suffered back-to-back defeats to Montenegro and Bulgaria now travel to Switzerland, who are also pointless after two Group G matches.

"Miracles are needed to if we are to get second place in this group," said Aston Villa defender Collins.

"And we can't expect to qualify after losing our first two qualifiers."

Wales have failed to qualify for a major championship finals since starring at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

The Welsh did make it to a European Championship quarter-finals - losing to Yugoslavia - in 1976 but, unlike the present day, the European finals were only made up of the last four teams.

Wales lost 1-0 in Montenegro - who now top the group thanks to three wins from three matches - before a 1-0 defeat by Bulgaria at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday.

Now Wales go to Switzerland hoping to avoid losing their opening three qualifiers - an unwanted feat a Welsh team has not suffered since the 1970 World Cup qualifying campaign.

England v Montenegro: Phil Jagielka's emergence puts Rio Ferdinand's place in doubt

Buy official football shirts, football kits, soccer jerseys, socks and retro soccer shirts online, cheap soccer jerseys and authentic soccer shirt printing from My Football Tops UK

No final decision has been made by Capello. He will watch and observe the players in training, as always, but if Ferdinand is left out it will be the first time that he has been 'dropped’ — though it may well be dressed up as being because he is short of fitness — since Sven-Goran Eriksson’s momentous decision to omit him against Austria five years ago.

In that case Steven Gerrard would remain wearing the armband and it is possible Capello may use the opportunity to confirm him as his full-time captain.

Jagielka’s emergence is all the more impressive because of the serious knee injury he has been recovering from and his lack of experience at international level.

Certainly the verdict from the England camp after the last two matches was that he pushed Gerrard hard as the most important player and Capello will now be giving serious thought to the question: does Jagielka deserve to be dropped having played so well, and what sort of message would this send out to the other players?

Davies Beats Carroll To Call Up.

Kevin Davies has finally made an England squad. An honour he has deserved for a number of years now after spear-heading Bolton’s attacking line for numerous seasons. He is a “typically English” striker too; a bruiser rather than a technical genius but still a different sort of striker to those England currently posses.

He may have deserved this call-up but surely now is not the time. Davies is 33 and his career will soon be coming to an end. It’s unlikely that he’ll be anywhere near the England squad in 2012, the next time a major championship is on the horizon, and it’s almost guaranteed that he will be nearer the Match of the Day studio rather than the Reebok Stadium pitch in 2014; the year of the next World Cup.

Adam Johnson tips balance for Manchester City win over Newcastle

Adam Johnson's cameo substitute appearance continued Manchester City's rise towards the top of English football but the referee, Martin Atkinson, played just as influential a role in a controversial victory which left Newcastle United's playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa with a broken leg.

Ben Arfa was carried off in distress after five minutes following a challenge from City's Dutch international Nigel de Jong, a tackle which could most kindly be described as "full-blooded", and Newcastle last night confirmed the 23-year-old had suffered a broken tibia and fibula of his left leg. He will have surgery tomorrow morningtoday but the club said in a statement that it has not set a time limit for the player, who is on loan from Marseille, to regain his fitness.

Opinion seemed divided as to the legality of the challenge, especially as Atkinson deemed it legitimate, and the Newcastle manager, Chris Hughton, chose his words carefully, although there was little doubting the sub-text of his comments. "Everybody will have their opinion, I'm quite sure, it's been shown enough times," he said.

Leeds United beaten 6-4 at home after stunning fightback from Preston

Buy official football shirts, football kits, soccer jerseys, socks and retro soccer shirts online, cheap soccer jerseys and authentic soccer shirt printing from My Football Tops UK

Leeds have had a few ups and downs in their history and their astonishing 6-4 home defeat to Preston marks a new extraordinary chapter.

Jon Parkin struck a hat-trick as Preston produced an amazing comeback to beat Leeds at Elland Road. North End, who began the evening in the drop zone, recovered from 4-1 behind after 39 minutes to snatch a barely believable away success.

Parkin had given them an early lead before the hosts responded brilliantly with Davide Somma's double added to goals from Luciano Becchio and Alex Bruce seemingly putting them in control. Anyone in attendance who thought the game was over was to be proved badly wrong, though, as Preston produced a remarkable riposte.

Parkin, who was taunted during the game but applauded by the home support when he was substituted late on, was the star, scoring either side of goals from Keith Treacy and Callum Davidson, before Iain Hume added a sixth.

The pressure is mounting on a former Leeds hero Gordon Strachan as his Middlesbrough side were beaten 3-1 by Derby County at Pride Park with Kris Commons producing two moments of magic.

Boro took the lead when Kris Boyd, restored to the starting line-up after being dropped for the previous two games, glanced in his second goal for the club. But Derby responded and after Commons had a penalty saved by Jason Steele, they equalised just before half-time when Commons' corner was headed home by Shaun Barker.

Commons was the star of the show in the second half as he produced two classy finishes to give the Rams a second consecutive home victory which prompted County fans to taunt Strachan with chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning". More here...........

Football transfer rumours: Fernando Torres to Manchester City?

Buy official football shirts, football kits, soccer jerseys, socks and retro soccer shirts online, cheap soccer jerseys and authentic soccer shirt printing from My Football Tops UK

Over the past few weeks the Mill has been ruminating on the tabloids' attempts to coin a nickname for Liverpool's manager Roy Hodgson. "Uncle Roy" has done the rounds as have "Hodgy" and "Hodgo" but none have stuck. But today's Mirror backpage splash of Steven Gerrard under the headline "Don't panic" has opened up a whole Dad's Army world to explore and makes Hodgson perfect casting as ARP Warden Hodges, the officious bane of Captain Mainwaring's life who has a tendency to undermine his authority by falling into rivers. And the drenched pictures of Hodgson from Wednesday night which get another airing alongside scores of handwringing analyses of Liverpool's decline do have a certain slapstick appeal. It also allows the Mill to think of Sammy Lee as Hodges' pettifogging sidekick, the Verger, and Alan Hansen as Private Frazer forever uttering "we're doomed", which is always a bonus.

Most papers are so busy sticking the boot into Liverpool that they've forgotten to print any transfer tittle-tattle at all. But the Star has done its duty with a story that does both. Fernando Torres, "Britain's most successful newspaper" says, "is ready to quit Liverpool in dismay at the club's progress under new boss Roy Hodgson". His representatives are already trying to engineer a move away from Anfield, apparently, alertingManchester City who are preparing a £50m bid. Stop us if you think that you've heard this one before.

Derby v Middlesbrough

Match Review
"Derby striker Alberto Bueno was too good for Crystal Palace at the weekend, and the Spaniard will now face a brittle Middlesbrough defence that has been so bad on the road.

Bueno's first two goals in English football ended a seven-match winless streak for Derby; the on-loan Real Valladolid forward showed why he was recommended by Spain coach Vicente del Bosque as Nigel Clough's side won for the first time since the opening day of the season.

It took only 17 seconds on Saturday for Middlesbrough to demonstrate their defensive frailty, when David Wheater's poor back-pass allowed Watford to open the scoring in a 3-1 win.

Boro have only managed one point from their last six away matches since April, and currently look a long way short of the side tipped for promotion at the start of the season."

Newcastle deny Given return rumours

By Damian Spellman, PA

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has dismissed speculation that keeper Shay Given could make an emotional return to St James' Park as cover for the injured Steve Harper.

Republic of Ireland international Given, 34, has lost his Manchester City place to Joe Hart this season and is desperate for regular football.

However, despite seeing 35-year-old Harper, the man who for so long acted as back-up to the Irishman during his 11-and-a-half-year stay on Tyneside, suffer a nasty shoulder injury at Everton on Saturday, Hughton will not be contacting City counterpart Roberto Mancini.

Asked about the speculation, he said: "I can understand that one and it is a very emotional one as well, but no, I can categorically say that won't be happening."

Newcastle's position on Given is perhaps equally understandable with the keeper having finally lost patience with life at St James' in the wake of a humiliating 5-1 home defeat by Liverpool in December 2008.

THE PREMIER LEAGUE MYTHS DEBUNKED

Buy official football shirts, football kits, soccer jerseys, socks and retro soccer shirts online, cheap soccer jerseys and authentic soccer shirt printing from My Football Tops UK
Date: 15th September 2010 at 7:33 pm | Written by Mark Molloy

"Is Tottenham striker Peter Crouch’s first-touch really that great? I mean it’s not bad for a big man, but not thatexceptional to keep harping on about it. On my Football Manager game it’s rated as 15 and I even think Sega were being a bit generous to the England international with that score. You hear so many commentators raving about Crouch having a ‘good touch for a big man’ that you start actually believing it is true.

I highlight this as a reference to the common myths and misconceptions that I believe are rife throughout the Premier League. This article attempts to deflate such fallacies, although I’ll let you to decide about Crouchie’s first touch.

The Premier League is the best in the world

This summer’s World Cup exposed the myth that the English Premiership is the best league in world football. While England were clinically dispatched in round two, Germany marched to the semi-finals alongside the delectable trio of Holland, Spain and Uruguay. So do the majority of players from the top four sides in world football come from the English league? In short, they most certainly do not.

Before the summer the entire Germany squad were playing their football in the Bundesliga, while Uruguay did not have a single player in their squad playing Premier League football. Meanwhile Spain had just three England-based players. Holland are the slight exception to this, but the majority of their squad were still playing away from the Premier League." "Fabregas' ninth-minute penalty set the tone of a thoroughly one-sided affair on a big night for English clubs, with the Gunners' Premier League rivals Chelsea also routing Zilina in Slovakia.

Andrei Arshavin and Jack Wilshere put Arsene Wenger's men out of sight by half-time and after Fabregas' second it was left to the man who replaced him, Vela, to round off the victory.

The other game in Group H saw Shakhtar Donetsk beat Partizan Belgrade 1-0 thanks to a goal from Darijo Srna.

Chelsea enjoyed a resounding success against MSK Zilina in Slovakia with Nicolas Anelka's double steering Carlo Ancelotti's men home to a 4-1 win."
